: huh? SOMEONE SEND ME A MESSAGE WONDERING WHAT THE MOBILE BAY FERRY HAD TO DO WITH THE LIGHTHOUSE!

: PLEASE Joe, tell me that you are joking and that someone didn't actually send you that message... PLEASE!!!! I'd hate to think there are such moronic individuals that actually read and/or partake in this message board... That Ferry has A-LOT to do with Sand Island, as it's a major draw to people coming down to Dauphin Island, providing a link to "the other side" and also enabling people to see the lighthouse who are taking a trip on the Ferry.. Gee, They see this lonely lighthouse from the point while they are waiting to board the ferry.. Hmmm.. "I wonder what that Lighthouse is all about, maybe i'll ask around, or look for information while i'm on the island, or MAYBE I'll Look up information on the Internet when I get home".... Sound plausible?? I think so.. And then to see this garbage, that someone would actually have the audacity to send Joe, probably one of the most faithful supporters of Sand Island, a message like that??? It's incomprehensible!!

: I shall step off my soapbox now, but we, as supporters should be thankful for any interest in anything that has to do with Dauphin Island or Fort Morgan, as they ARE our land-based links to that Lighthouse. Thank you for the Info Joe, as it saved me a trip down there, as I was planning to go and take my family on the Ferry across the bay... Now I will confirm it being opened before I do!

: : : I spent a few days in Gulf Shores last week (weather was lousy!) and noticed that the Ferry was not running. Sign said it would resume in March. Anybody know why it has been out of operation?

: : Only that while in Gulf Shores a few weeks ago, I was telling a group of "Snowbirds" about our Sand Island Lighthouse and that was a good way to see it - weather permitting, was to take the Ferry over to Dauphin Island and rent the "Let It Be". That's when I discovered the Ferry was not running then.
