This just in from the Lighthouse Directory... NOT good news, as had been predicted by some on this board within the last month... This doesn't bode well, in my eyes for Mobile Point, as the addage of "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" I think will come into play for this lighthouse... One can only hope they don't come up with a similar plan when more renovations are necessary for Middle Bay...

""Mobile Point Light dismantled for safekeeping
Thanks to Jeremy D'Entremont for forwarding news of this event.
Visitors to Fort Morgan who can't find the Mobile Point lighthouse aren't missing anything: the lighthouse really has disappeared. The Alabama Historical Commission has dismantled the tower and moved it in sections to storage.

The tower was in deteriorated condition after standing beside the walls of the historic fort for more than 20 years. Since funds to restore it were not available, the Commission decided to move it inside for safekeeping.

Mark Driscoll, Director of Historic Sites, said the Commission is "in the process of developing an extensive master plan for Fort Morgan, which will include priorities and schedules for historic preservation of all structures on the site. The master plan will also be our blueprint for fundraising preservation work is complete, but none of the work is scheduled currently.""
